NetTracker FAQ
What software is required to use NetTracker?
NetTracker is accessible using Internet Explorer or Firefox. No desktop or server software is required.
Does NetTracker use log files or page tags to analyze site traffic?
You can analyze log files, JavaScript page tags, or a combination of both methods.
How is information presented in NetTracker?
There is an executive dashboard that provides decision making information about your web site over a selected period of time. To view key performance indicators for your web site you can access marketing, content, visitor, traffic and technical dashboards.
Is it possible to review any one individual’s click stream path?
Yes, NetTracker’s interactive reports allow you to drill down into finer levels of detail based upon criteria you select. You can also create custom reports that deliver the information you need.
Is it possible to create custom reports using data filters?
You can create custom reports as needed. An easy way to create a custom report is to apply filters to any existing report. There is also an Ask NetTracker feature that is a question-driven custom reporting interface. Ask NetTracker allows you to choose from a list of pre-written custom reports or build your own custom report in a simple question-builder application.
How does NetTracker track new, unique, and repeat visitors?
NetTracker uses a number of methodologies to identify a session or unique visit: authenticated username, cookie, parameter value in query strings, pages, page tags, user-defined fields, or a combination of IP address and user agent (browser and platform). Unique visits reported are the total number of visitors that come to your site during the selected time frame. This number will be less than your total traffic as NetTracker will not put repeat visits by the same visitor in this count. The NetTracker Repeat Visitor Summary reports the number of new, repeat and unique visitors.
I have thousands of referring sites each month. Is it possible to see information on just one of these referrers?
Yes, simply click on the NetTracker filter icon and specify the referrer you are interested in. NetTracker will instantly filter the report so it only includes the referrer selected.
Can NetTracker tell me which robots and spiders are accessing my site?
NetTracker has an extensive list of robots and spiders. By default, NetTracker excludes robots and spiders from all other web traffic reports as they do not represent real visitors to your site.
Can NetTracker help me distinguish between paid and organic search listings?
Yes. There are several PPC related reports that will enable you to track your search ROI.
Can NetTracker report on specific non-contiguous dates?
It can. NetTracker’s interactive calendar display, included in all editions of NetTracker, allows you to look at your data at a yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, or daily level, including any consecutive or non-consecutive group of days (such as one particular week or every Tuesday in a given month). For reporting on consecutive or non-consecutive date ranges spanning multiple months, simply apply one, or a series of, date filters to the report.
Can NetTracker create comparative reports?
Sure. For example you could run a report showing the top keywords being used on your most popular referring search engines, or you could look at the top domains your web visitors are coming from and which sections of your site they are most interested in.
Can NetTracker show me if one of our customers, competitors or partners is visiting our Web site?
Sure. Just use the NetTracker Filter Icon in any report to filter in to the report only host names of the parties that you are interested in tracking.
Can NetTracker automatically email me key reports?
Yes!
What reports should we use?
No two websites are the same and everyone has different business objectives. Sane Solutions prepared a NetTracker Web Analytics Recipe Card PDF that is fairly detailed.
